We are excited to share with you the plans we have lodged with North Lanarkshire Council seeking planning permission in principle for a multi-screen cinema together with 4 supporting restaurants. This will be incorporated into a revamped entrance area to the shopping centre which will also provide a potential new home for the relocation of the St Enoch Clock as a focal point in the new entrance foyer. We have developed these plans over several months following a detailed review of other potential locations within the town centre as to where this development could go. We believe this is the most appropriate location and will provide a major focus for the town centre. We have interest from leading cinema operators (namely Odeon and The Light) and national restaurant brands – new to Cumbernauld – and hope to secure pre-lets ahead of development. We are aware of other cinema proposals but consider the heart of the town centre the preferred and most logical location within Cumbernauld for this exciting leisure proposal. This planned investment follows on from our successful redevelopment of Forth Walk to create the gym which opened in the summer and the merger of the town and shopping centre assets to rebrand them The Centre Cumbernauld. We would welcome any support that the public can give to getting behind this scheme. We are hosting a community consultation event on Friday 8th February in unit 30 Teviot Walk, The Centre Cumbernauld 11:00-17:00 where representatives from our project team will be present to answer any queries. Everyone is welcome to drop by and we look forward to seeing you there.
